Headquartered in Chennai, Brakes India Private Limited has three main divisions; Brake division, Foundry division and Polymer division. Brakes India Private Limited is the largest component manufacturing company within the TVS – Santhanam group. The comprehensive product portfolio includes calipers, actuation, drum brakes, valves, hose ABS and brake fluid for passenger vehicles, S-cam, Hydraulic drum brakes, Disk brakes and Electro Magnetic Retarders for commercial vehicles and Dry and Wet multiple plate disk brakes for agricultural tractors. The foundry division manufactures permanent mould ferrous castings, Grey iron and SG iron castings using the Disamatic process. As a system supplier catering to the light vehicle, commercial vehicle and the off highway segment, Brakes India Private Limited, with over 7000 dedicated employees supplying systems and components to global OEM’s such as Suzuki, Toyota, Honda, VW, Ford, Nissan Volvo, Daimler, MAN and Indian OEM;s such as TATA and Mahindra, is all set to make it’s mark as a world class player in a very competitive market.
Supporting this large infrastructure is Brakes India Private Limited’s world class foundry producing over 75,000 tons of iron castings in India and additionally another 36,000 tons in Oman created to support the expanding export requirement. Being at the forefront of casting technology, our foundry endeavors to achieve customer satisfaction by Business Excellence through technological leadership. Equipped with a Permanent Mould facility, four Disamatic lines, Kunkel Wagner line and an in-house Pattern and Die Shop with CAD / CAM / CAE, the foundry specializes in the manufacture of Ductile Iron castings in the Sand Foundries. Exports thrust areas being Germany, France, U.K. Sweden, Japan, South Africa and U.S.A. The product mix focuses on safety critical parts such as Brake Calipers, Master Cylinders, Wheel Cylinders, Steering Knuckles, Toque Plates, Turbo Charger components, Power Train components and Compressor parts.
Apart from being certified to IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 standards, the foundry is the first ever in the world to receive the prestigious Deming Application Prize as well as the TPM Excellence Award – First Category in the same year 2003. In addition, they have won the Award for Excellence in Consistent TPM commitment – First category in the year 2006 and Special Award for TPM Achievement in the year 2007.

- Polymer Division is located on a picturesque sloping landscape overlooking the river Kapila, in the Industrial area of Nanjangud, located in Mysore dist. Karnataka. The sloping terrain was ideally suited for process flow.
- Polymer Division manufactures a wide and comprehensive range of high quality engineering thermoplastics developed specifically for the production of high performance injection molded articles used in Automotive, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical and high precision Engineering Industries. The Company aims at satisfying today's increasingly stringent market requirements for functional performance, reliability and consistently high quality.
- The Company's principal grades are derived from the basic thermoplastic resins such as Polypropylene, Polyamides, all of which serve the injection molding Industry. These products offer a combination of characteristics such as low specific weight, outstanding resilience at low temperatures, stiffness, creep resistance, heat deflection temperatures, dimensional stability and resistance to fatigue.
- To ensure high product quality, the technical characteristics of the raw materials and the products are monitored by the Quality Assurance department. All tests are carried out in accordance with International standards. Color is assessed both by colorimetric methods and visually against a standard.
- Quality Assurance does not end once the product leaves the plant.

In 1981, Brakes India Private Limited established a Foundry Division at Sholinghur, 120 Kilometers from Chennai, to manufacture grey iron castings from the Permanent Mould process which now has a capacity of 12,000 MTPA. Subsequently between 1992 and 2006 BIF installed four Disamatic High Pressure moulding lines and a Kunkel Wagner High Pressure Moulding line with a total capacity to produce 72,000 MTPA of ductile iron castings.
BIF has a magnetic vision which is a synthesis of visions of all the stakeholders – the customers, the employees, the stockholders, the vendors and the society at large. BIF is proud of its role as a responsible Corporate Citizen especially of the innovative and sustainable Environmental Management System and contribution to the upliftment of Sholinghur village in the areas of Education, Health and Infrastructure.
In 2007, The Dunes Oman was established in partnership between Brakes India Private Limited Limited and Sundaram Finance Limited at Salalah, Sultanate of Oman. The Dunes Oman started its operations in 2008 with a capacity of 18,000 MTPA and expanded its capacity to 36,000 MTPA in May 2011 and has two Disamatic high pressure moulding lines. This is a 100% Export Oriented Unit producing Safety critical parts for the Automotive Industry.
BIF and Dunes Oman are major exporter of automotive castings with ability to supply critical and fully finished parts to discerning customers.
