Desi, through its 6 stores has been marketing naturally dyed handmade products for the last two decades and has created a niche market for such products among the upper middle-class clientele, which forms the majority of customer base at Desi stores in Bangalore. Desi bestowed upon itself the unique status of being the pioneer in natural dyeing handmade clothes, at least in South India. The market for naturally dyed handloom products has grown considerable. Consumers who are conscious about their ecological footprint, about health benefits of natural dyes create a growing demand for such products. Today, world over, there is a tremendous growth in ecologically sustainable, environmentally friendly, non-polluting, fair trade products. Natural dyes is not an easy craft to master. It takes years of experience by trial and error to get the right combination of ingredients and processes to be carried out to perfection.
