Product Detail
Dholak Drum
Dholak Drum, Rope + Bolt Tuned, Hand Made, Mango Wood, Special Skin, Natural Colour, Gig Bag, Tuning Key, Nice Sound, For Bhajan Keertan, Mantra, Ladies Sangeet, Dance & Music, etc.
The dholak is one of the most widely utilized drums in the folk music of India. It has also found a permanent home in most of the recording and broadcast environments. Applications range from dance music such as bhangra and garba to devotional bhajans and keertans. The dholak is basically a double headed drum with the bass head on one side and the treble head on the other. The left hand is also a single membrane with a special application on the inner surface. This application is a mixture of tar, clay and sand (dholak masala) which lowers the pitch and provides a well defined tone. On the treble drum side, there is no putty added.
The nut and bolt version of the dholak is a more modern and better engineered version of the Dholak. Some even call this version a dholki.

Thakil – Thavil Drum
Product Detail
Thakil – Thavil Drum
The Thavil or Tavil or Thakil is a barrel shaped drum from South India. It is used in temple, folk and Carnatic music, often accompanying the Nadaswaram. The Thakil/ Thavil and the Nadaswaram are essential ingredients of traditional festivals and ceremonies in South India.
The Thakil/ Thavil Drum consists of a cylindrical shell hollowed out of a solid block of Jackfruit wood. Layers of animal skin (water buffalo on the right, goat on the left) are stretched across the two sides of the shell using hemp hoops attached to the shell.
The instrument is either played while sitting, or hung by a cloth strap (called nadai) from the shoulder of the player. The right head is played with the right hand, wrist and fingers. The player usually wears thumb caps on all the fingers of the right hand, made of hardened glue from maida flour. The left head is played with a short, thick stick made from the wood of the portia tree. It is not uncommon for left-handed players to use the opposite hands, and some Nadaswaram groups feature both a right- and a left-handed Thakil/ Thavil player.
In folk music contexts, a pair of wider, slimmer sticks is sometimes used. Thanjavur is famous for Thakil/ Thavil Drum, so called Thanjavur Thavil. In kollywood Filmi songs thavils are mostly used, Notable movies: “Thillana mohanambal”, “Paruthiveeran”, “Karagattakaran”.

Dhama -Sikh Jori
Product Detail
Dhama -Sikh Jori
Dhama Drum- Regular Size Shesham Wood Tabla, Hand Made Skin, Leather Strap to Tune, Long Life, Sikh Jori Pakhawaj, Comes with Tuning Pegs, For Bajan, Kirtan, etc.
The invention of the jori, “couple,” is attributed in Sikh lore to the 5th Guru Arjan (1563-1609). Its predecessor in Sikh devotional practice was the pakhawaj, the pre-eminent barrel drum of the Indo-Persian courts and of contemporary dhrupad music. During Arjan’s time, the jori became a specialty of practitioners of gurbani kirtan in the city of Amritsar, which by 1604 had become the capital of Sikh devotionalism. According to Bhai Baldeep Singh’s research, the distinctive sound of the jori became associated with the city and became known as the Amritsari baaj, the musical style of Amritsar. This style has now been all but forgotten and his project is to revive its structures, instruments, and sounds.
The left-hand drum, the dhamma, is larger, much heavier and taller, and is fashioned more like an oversized tabla than like the modern bayan of the tabla pair. The dhamma produced deeper base sounds that are strong, expansive and resonating, unequaled by any other Indian drum.

Flute

Flute
The shehnai is a north Indian oboe. Although it is referred to as a double-reeded instrument it is actually a quadruple-reed instrument. This is because it has two upper reeds and two lower reeds. The instrument has a wooden body with a brass bell. The reed is attached to a brass tube which is wrapped in string. The shehnai has Six to Nine holes.
All the tunes of full tone, half-tone and sharp notes can be played on this instrument through breath control. The notes are continuous and is generally used in classical and light classical music.
The sound of the shehnai is considered particularly auspicious. For this reason it is found in temples and is an indispensable component of any North Indian wedding. In the past, shehnai was part of the naubat or traditional ensembles of nine instruments found at royal courts. This instrument is a close relative of the Nagaswaram found in South Indian Music.
Ustad (Master) Bismillah Khan was a well-known shehnai player.

Morchang
Product Detail
Morchang
A Morsing (also Mourching, Morching or Morchang) is a wind percussion instrument, mainly used in the Carnatic music of South India, Rajasthan and Sindh (Pakistan). It can be categorized under Lamellophones, which is in the category of plucked idiophones. It consists of a metal ring in the shape of a horseshoe with two parallel forks which form the frame, and a metal tongue in the middle, between the forks, fixed to the ring at one end and free to vibrate at the other. The metal tongue is bent at the free end in a plane perpendicular to the circular ring so that it can be struck and is made to vibrate. This bent part is called the trigger.
The Morchang is placed between the teeth and held firmly in the hand and is struck using the other hand to produce sound. Movement of the player’s tongue, variations of the throat and blowing and sucking of air through the instrument produces different sounds or overtones.
The Morchang is firmly held in the hand, the frame or the ring between the palm and the fingers usually in the left hand. Care should be taken to see that the middle part or the metal tongue is not being touched when held idle. Then the two parallel forks are gently pressed against the front upper teeth. The trigger is plucked with the tip of the index finger. Sound is produced due to the vibration of the metal tongue of the Morchang in the mouth and the throat cavity. Movement of the player’s tongue with constant plucking can produce very fast patterns of sound.
