The idea of separating nitrogen from air by an adsorptive process was equally off-beat as it was fascinating. But in the early 70's Bergbau-Forschung managed just that. Since then we licence the BF- Process to separate nitrogen from air worldwide. This process is based on the Molecular Sieve Effect Facilitated by special custom-made activated carbon.The principle of the process is surpris- ingly simple and very effective. Two adsorbers, used alternately, are filled with the Carbonaceous Molecular Sieve or CMS. To begin with, one of the two adsorbers is filled with air under pressure.Then, the Molecular Sieve adsorbs mainly oxygen, and a nitrogen rich gas leaves the adsorber.

Simple pressure reduction regenerates the first adsorber. In the meantime the second adsorber starts the production cycle. Cycle times of as short as 1-2 minutes for adsorption and desorption ensure a constant nitrogen supply.

Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technique is utilised to obtain Oxygen from atmospheric air. Compressed air at about 4-6 bar, depending on the size of the unit is processed via a compressor or from a compressed air network alternatively in two towers equipped with special grade of Molecular Sieves (Adsorbers A and B). Through the pressure change controlled electronically by valve block D, Nitrogen, moisture and Carbondioxide are adsorbed and desorbed.

In Adsorber A the incoming air is freed of N2, H2O & CO2, which are adsorbed by Molecular Sieves of tower A. The outgoing oxygen is stored in buffer tank C. After a preset period, the process of adsorption automatically switches to Adsorber B. Whilst B is being filled, A is emptied bya pressure drop and venting to atmosphere. Venting with Oxygen from the other tower ensures that the Nitrogen and other impurities are completely removed from the Molecular Sieves.

We manufacture ammonia cracking units of the aforementioned specifications. These have application in heat treatment processes of ferrous & non-ferrous metals as well as brazing.

Generally all the spares for PSA Nitrogen, PSA/VPSA Oxygen and other plants are available with us from our ready stock. We are also in a position to offer our services for fitting of those spares in these plants and re-commissioning of the complete equipment.
