High Voltage Inclined Plane Tracking and Erosion Tester for Insulating Materials as per ASTM D2303-97.
The equipment covers the evaluation of the relative tracking and erosion resistance of insulating solids using the liquid contaminant designed as per standard ASTM D2303
As per ASTM D2303, insulating material should withstand against tracking & Erosion on the field. Which why they are evaluated in a laboratory by means of liquid contamination in a particular arrangement. The equipment displayed herewith are used for the same purpose. A high voltage is applied between two electrodes and a liquid contaminant is used in between so as to check & measure tracking. We offer this system in various configurations based on your application – R&D or Compliance Test & Assessment. The routines/measurements that can be conducted by this equipment are:

Hipot Tester
Customised Hipot Tester for testing Dielectric Breakdown Voltage and Dielectric Strength of Solid Insulating material as per ASTM D149 – 09
In this test, an AC voltage at the frequency of the electrical utility is applied using simple test electrodes at opposite faces of the solid insulating material. The voltage is gradually increased in steps as described in clause 12 of ASTM D149 – 09.
The SCR Hipot model, HipotMax – Automatic is custom built for this test. It has the necessary system to support High Voltage Application up to 100kV AC. Safety Interlocks & features such as foot switch etc. are provided to take care of operator safety. The high voltage, steps and other parameters can be programmed in the dedicated control unit. The operator gets record of the voltage & test as it progresses. We have a PC based option on the HipotMax like in all electrical safety test equipment from us. The test routines are pre-programmed to support ASTM D149 – 09 so there is no room for operator error. This equipment can be used as a generic hipot tester since all the parameters are programmable using the PLC & timer.

Glow wire apparatus is the commonly used equipment for testing solid insulating material for fire hazard testing. This test apparatus is covered in IEC 60695-2-10 and commonly referred for various devices in many standards such as IEC 60335, IEC 60695-2-11, IEC 60695-2-12, IEC 60598-1, IEC 60947, IEC 60898, IEC 61008-1, IEC 60669-1, IEC 60884-1, IEC 60950-1 / IS 13252, IEC 60238, IEC 60745-1, IEC 60400, IEC 60730-1, IEC 61050, IEC 60320-1, IEC 61058-1, ASTM D 6194-03 and UL 60745-1.
As per IEC 60695 - 2 - 10 (Glowing/hot-wire based test methods – Glow-wire apparatus and common test procedure), parts of solid insulating materials are ignited by glowing wires. A nickel/chromium wire is heated to 960°C and the insulating material is pushed against it with a force of 1 Newton. It is checked that the insulating material does not attain a certain temperature or catches fire so as to prevent fire hazard in their vicinity. For complete description, please refer IEC 60695 - 2 - 10, even if you have product specific standards such as IEC 60898 for Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB), IEC 60335 for Safety of Electrical Appliances or IEC 60947 for Switchgears and so on. If your product is to be tested for conformity assessment, please also refer ASTM D 6194 – 3 (Standard Test Method for Glow-wire ignition of materials).

Hot Wire Ignition Tester
The SCR ELEKTRONIKS Heated Wire Tester is used for testing Ignition of Materials by Hot Wire Sources as per ASTM D 3874. As suggested by the standard, Heated Wire Tester is designed to evaluate a material's ability to resist ignition when exposed to abnormally high temperatures.
As per the standard, the center position of the specimen is wrapped with a Nichrome wire in a specific way as per clause 10.1 of ASTM D 3874. The free ends of the wire is connected to a circuit which supplies current as per clause 6.3 “Supply Circuit” of ASTM D 3874. Next the circuit is energized such that it dissipates 0.26 W/mm. When the ignition occurs or after 120 seconds (whichever is earlier), the circuit is switched off and the time to ignition is noted. If the material under test melts, then the circuit is switched off when the material is no longer in touch with the 5 turns of the heated wire. In such case the time to melt is noted.

SCR ELEKTRONIKS Impulse Voltage Testers is designed for interference test as per IEC 61000-4-5 & IEC 61180. Impulse Voltage Testers produce a Voltage Impulse of the required 1.2 / 50 microsecond waveform, meaning a high voltage pulse with 1.2 microseconds rise time and 50 microseconds fall time. The voltage level is settable from 0.5kV to 25kV (depending upon model).

Surge Tester is intended for testing of insulating materials, and for testing of particular components in mains operated electronic apparatus for household and telecommunication. This is tested with high voltage surges 10kV.
High voltage switch with IEC 60065 circuit is located in solid, isolated housing made of Plexiglas, so that it is protected from dust. Due to the transparency monitoring of high voltage switch is possible. The switch is mounted on top of sheet steel housing that consists control unit and high voltage source.
The arrangement of switch electrode is as shown figure 5b of IEC 60065. Brass sphere and contacts of high voltage switch are gold plated to avoid oxidation.

High-voltage pulse generator producing Ring Wave 0.5 μs / 100 kHz acc. to IEEE 587. The output peak voltage can be preset continuously from 0.2 - 6 kV. Rise time 0.5μs to the first peak, ringing frequency 100 kHz. A built-in current transformer allows monitoring of the output current waveform. Drc Arc Resistance Tester as per ASTM D 495
This equipment is made to test the electrical insulating material by exposing it to Arcing under high voltage. The test specimen is placed under electrodes, spaced at a distance of 6.35mm as per ASTM D 495. An Arc is generated between these electrodes. The test consists of 7 Cycles starting from cycle 1. As the cycles progress the test becomes progressively severe. The test specimen that has lower insulating strength fails earlier in the first few cycles while those with higher insulating strength sustain higher cycles. The test is halted when the specimen fails and the time taken from the start of the test till the failure is used for comparing INSULATING STRENGHTS (time in seconds) of various insulating materials. The test specimen may fail by forming a conducting path, by burning into flames, by melting or any other physical, visual deformities.
The test method as per ‘ASTM D 495 – Standard Test Method for High-voltage, Low-current Dry Arc Resistance of Solid Insulating Material’ is pre-programmed in the PLC. Please refer to ASTM D 495 for more details. This equipment complies testing as per other standards as well, such as IEC 61621 (Dry, solid insulating materials - Resistance test to high-voltage, low-current arc discharges), UL 746 A (Polymeric Materials – Short Term Property Evaluations Testing For Electrical Properties) and IS 14672 (Method of Test for High Voltage Low Current Dry Arc Resistance of Solid Electrical Insulation).
