CHARACTERISTICS:

DIN 1.2738 is specially used for Plastic injection die moulds. The characteristics of a material are right sharpening, photo-etching properties with high purity and good homogeneity. DIN 2738 is upgraded version of plastic mold steel 2311, which normally supply in Pre hardened condition. Hardness in as supplied condition 280-320 HB with having uniform hardness. The additional nickel content of 1 % increases through hardening. It has good machinability, suitable for Texturing, fine polishability, adequate corrosion resistance, vacuum-degassed steel.

Steel Properties:

It has good machinability, suitable for texturing, outstanding polishability, adequate corrosion resistance. vacuum-degassed steel with the following excellent features.

D2 steel is an air hardening, high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel. 
It has high wear and abrasion resistant properties. 
It is heat treatable and will offer a hardness in the range 55-62 HRC, and is machinable in the annealed condition.
D2 steel shows little distortion on correct hardening. 
D2 steel’s high chromium content gives it mild corrosion resisting properties in the hardened condition.

FEATURES: D2 steel (Cr12MoV is an air hardening, high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel. It has high wear and abrasion resistant properties. P20 Mold Steel is a versatile, low-alloy tool steel that is characterized by good toughness at moderate strength levels. The steel is commonly used for plastic injection mold cavities and tooling and for die casting dies for zinc. P20 is typically sold in the pre-hardened condition at a hardness of approximately 300 HBW.
 

The basic p20 steel properties description are as follows:-

• P20 tool steel is normally prehardened between 29 to 33 HRC.
• It has good mirror polish-ability and its less texture makes finishing easier.
• It maintains uniform hardness throughout even across large blocks.
• Its excellent weld-ability with grate toughness and nitriding properties makes it a primary choice for plastic mould maker.

Features:
High hardenability, 
Excellent wear resistance and hot toughness. 
Good Thermal shock resistance and will tolerate some water cooling in service. 
Nitriding improves hardness, but can diminish shock resistance if hardened layer is too thick. 
Electroslag Remelted (ESR) H13 has greater homogeneity and an exceptionally fine structure, resulting in improved machinability, polishability and high temperature tensile strength.

Applications: hot work applications: pressure die casting tools, extrusion tools, forging dies, hot shear blades, stamping dies, plastic molds. ESR H13 is great for aluminum die-casting tools and plastic mold tools requiring a very high polish.

Weldability: Pre and Post-heating recommended, can be welded with oxy-acetylene, inert shielded gas and shielded metal arc; Filler should be similar to the base metal.
