CE Marking
CE certification scheme for the EU market demonstrates that the products have been evaluated according to the harmonized standards in terms of health, safety & environmental protection requirements and comply to EHSR requirements in EU. Complying such requirements, the person placing the product in EU market, declares that the product meets all legal requirements of EU regulations & may affix the ‘CE’ Mark.
EU Legislations governing the harmonisation of essential health and safety requirements for machinery is Machinery Directive named as 2006/42/EC.
Likewise, the Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive called 2014/35/EU ensures that the electrical equipment within the range of 50V to 1000V alternative current (AC) and 75V to 1500V direct current (DC) provides a adequate protection for EU market.
EMC Directive, 2014/30/EU aim to ensure that the electrical and electronic equipment is not affected by or does not generate electromagnetic disturbance as it limits to electromagnetic emissions from equipment. The equipment needs to comply EMC requirement as per EMC directive 2014/30/EU while placing to EU market.
‘CE’ marking is a mandatory mark for many designated products placed in European Economic Area (EEA) which ensures the product is thoroughly assessed for Essential Health & Safety Requirements (EHSR) according to the EU Regulations.

SMETA – SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit is a methodology developed by SEDEX - Supplier Ethical Data Exchange as a centrally agreed audit protocol that can be shared amongst the SEDEX members. URS, under the group, is Affiliate Audit Company (AAC) of SEDEX that can conduct SMETA and other social audits for SEDEX members worldwide. URS is also an audit firm member of the Association of Professional Social Compliance Auditors (APSCA).
SMETA audits follow ETI Base Codes developed by ILO. SMETA audits are conducted SMETA -2 Pillar and SMETA -4 Pillar audits. A SMETA 2 Pillar audit comprises of Labor Standards and Health & Safety with additional elements of management systems, environmental assessment (shortend) and SMETA 4-pillar audit comprises of Business Ethics and Environmental assessment (extended) alongwith elements of 2 Pillar audits. Higg facility environmental Index is a benchmark indexing protocol for apparel and footwear industry assessing environmental and social sustainability throughout the supply chain.
Higg FEM tools were developed in 2012 by Sustainable Apparel Coalition for environmental sustainability. Higg Index is for the facility’s internal use for measurement in the improvement of the facility’s environmental performance.
The SAC – Sustainable Apparel Coalition has developed verification program, Higg FEM, to build consistency, credibility and compatibility in Higg Index scores of facilities for them to benchmark and improve performances. Higg verifier body, URS are able to conduct verification for Higg FEM across the brands, retailers and facilities of all sizes and at each stage of their sustainability process.
