The foundation stone of the Modi Empire was laid in 1932, when Rai Bahadur Gujar Mal Modi cast the foundation of the Sugar Plant. From a humble beginning, this flagship company has now developed into a major agro-based industry. Modi Sugar Mills, located in the heart of sugarcane producing belt of Western Uttar Pradesh, is completely modernised and automated. It produces 80,000 tonnes of pharma grade & white crystal sugar per annum and is now renowned as one of the most efficient sugar plants in Northern India. The pharmaceutical operations had started in the year 1982 with Win-Medicare in collaboration with Sterling Drugs of USA. In 1989, Sterling Drug was sold to Eastman Kodak in the USA and this relationship came to an end. Post this, Umesh Modi group became a licensee of Mundipharma, A global (ex-US) network of independent associated companies that research, develop and manufacture innovative pharmaceutical medicines and consumer healthcare products for selling Betadine range of products in India. The association with Mundipharma was later on spun off into a 50:50 JV arrangement between Mundipharma group and Mr. Umesh K. Modi of the Umesh Modi Group of Industries, a leading business conglomerate in India. Modi-Mundipharma group, through collaborations with the global players, is into gamut of healthcare business including Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, Nutrition, Phytopharmaceuticals & Consumer Health.
